Hair Donations: How to donate, where to donate, how much to donate.

img_5701Why donate your hair?! There are so many adults and children who suffer from hair loss for a variety of reasons, so if you have healthy locks that grow back easily,  why not give back?! Anyone can donate their hair, however organizations have different guidelines. Some organizations refuse colored or gray hair, but below I will address different organizations you can donate to. It is important to do your research beforehand. One important factor to me was that my hair would be ‘donated’ to the client, not used for ‘profits’ for an organization. Megan, the owner of Beautique  is who cut my hair! She also did my hair for my wedding so I knew I could fully trust her with a change this big. If you live in the Indianapolis area, check out her salon!

Organizations

Wigs for Kids.org : They make wigs for children and teens. They require a minimum of 12 inches of hair that is not dyed, bleached, or highlighted.

Children With Hair Loss: They make wigs for children under 21 with medical related hair loss. They require a minimum of 8 inches, but prefer 10 inches. If you hair is healthy, they will accept colored hair and gray hair! Must be dry and in a ‘pony tail’ or braid.

Locks of Love:  They make wigs for kids under the age of 21 who suffer from long-term medical hair loss. They require at least 10 inches of hair. Colored or permed hair is acceptable.

To sum it up:

  • Anyone can cut your hair.
  • Make sure your hair is dry and pony tailed in the required length.
  • Print the form and mail it to the address listed along with your hair.

It is super easy to do! I donated 12 inches of my hair to Children With Hair Loss. No matter which organization you choose, you are helping someone in need and that is what matters most!

Stay Fearless,

Michelle Foster
