I want to start a blog: A step by step guide on how to create your own blog!
You may have tossed the idea around for awhile, but have no idea where to start, but this is where I can help! Let me start by saying, there will never be a ‘perfect’ time to launch your blog, something may always hold you back, but just go for it, girl!
What are you going to blog about? Do you have niche? Specifically food, fashion, crafting, travel etc. Or do you want to share a variety of things? With a lifestyle blog you can literally write about anything and everything!
Now choose a name. Time to brainstorm. You can have it correlate with your niche, make it broad, or just use your name! I chose a broad name to create a lifestyle blog so I would not be forever attached to one niche.
Go buy that Domain. Seriously go buy it. It’s very affordable and some companies offer packages to bundle your domain name and hosting site. I purchased my domain from GoDaddy.Com, but I wish I would have purchased my domain and host from the same site to make renewals easier and to save money!
Find a Host. I used Blue Host. It is a little over $2 per month. As I mentioned above, consider bundling your host and domain!
Obviously you do not need to purchase anything to start a blog, but I wanted mine to be clean and concise. It also motivates me to continue blogging. You can always use the free platforms without purchasing a domain i.e WordPress, Wix, or Blog Spot. Your website would just look like this fearlesslyfoster.blogspot.com V.S fearlesslyfoster.com.
Now time to choose your platform, I mentioned a few popular options above. I personally decided to use WordPress. I read it could be difficult for beginners and other sites were more user friendly, but I also read WordPress offered so much more compared to other platforms. It took trial and error to set up, but I learned so much about blogging in such a short amount of time thanks to WordPress.
Now that your website is running, it’s time to get creative! Choose your layout, theme & start BLOGGING!
I hope this touches the basics on how to start a blog.
Stay Fearless,
Michelle Foster
