Siesta Key Travel Diary

Siesta Key is my new favorite city to visit in Florida. It would be a great vacation to go on with family or friends. I went with a group of friends, but it was very kid friendly as well! The trip was very relaxing as it had a ‘small town’ beach vibe!

Where We Stayed:

We stayed HERE in the ‘village’, which is a street full of shops, restaurants, and bars. We rented one half of the duplex I linked above. Each duplex had their own private pool, a garage, 4 bedrooms, 3 full baths, and 2 pull out couches. Where we stayed also had a fully stocked kitchen and washer and dryer. It was in the PERFECT location. We were walking distance to the beach, and a grocery store as well. The rental also came with a beach cart, beach towels, an umbrella, cooler, beach toys, etc. We will stay here every time we visit!

What to do:

Visiting the beach is at the top of the list when it comes to things to do! The sand is like powder and so soft. There is a sand bar you can swim to which is filled with seashells and sand dollars.

If you’re feeling more adventurous, you can rent a boat or jet ski for the day.

Every Sunday night there is a ‘drum circle’ that occurs 1 hour before sunset. Locals gather to create a show for tourist. It is located near the public beach parking lot.

There is a ‘farmers market’ in the parking lot across from the Village Cafe on Saturday mornings.

Watch the sunset at the Pier. There is an American flag located at the pier where a small ceremony to honor Veterans takes place during sunset.

Sarasota is a short 20 minute drive from where we stayed in Siesta Key. We drove there one night to play putt putt at Smugglers Cove. While in Sarasota, you could also visit the Aquarium, or the Ringling Brother’s Museum.

Where we Ate:

In Sarasota we ate at Marina Jack’s which is located on the waterfront. They had amazing seafood! I had the crab cakes and they were delicious. While in Sarasota, we also visited a water front bar called Oleary’s Tiki Bar.

In the ‘village’ of Siesta Key is where we spent a majority of our time.

  • SKOB– This was my favorite restaurant because of the live music. We ordered crab legs, lobster, and oysters. Bring a one dollar bill and you’ll be able to sign it and staple it to a wall filled with others!
  • Baja Grill. The Hub– A Mexican restaurant. I had the fish tacos!
  • Gilligans– Bar food with better drinks than SKOB.
  • Daiquiri Deck– They offer so many daiquiri flavors! The perfect mid day drink on a hot day in Siesta Key!
  • Salty Dog– This is a chain restaurant. I would suggest visiting the one in ‘long boat’ on the water versus the one on the ‘village’ strip. Fudge Factory– The place to get your sugar fix! They were open late too!
  • Big Olaf– Ice cream
  • Ripfire– Pizza
  • Bonjour French Cafe– Breakfast cafe with crepes!
  • Mojo Risin Coffe Co.- Coffee and vitality bowls.
  • Village Cafe– A typical breakfast diner. They also serve lunch!
  • Another Broken Egg– This is a chain restaurant, but it’s still a great option for breakfast.
